A Limerick for July 4, 2020

A dear friend who still reads newspapers threw one to the floor as he read about President Trump’s tweets both defending monuments to Southern enslavers and promoting his upcoming trip to Mount Rushmore to celebrate Independence Day without masks or social distancing.  My friend dashed off a limerick to capture the moment.

The orange man sits on the throne.
For myriad deaths he is known.
Humans don’t matter
Except if they flatter
Or if they are carved out of stone.
